Sterfos

Sterfos means infertile, but when used to describe terrain, it refers to dry land, much like the majority of Serifos Island. Nevertheless, the subsoil being rich in iron ore, and mining exploitation a century ago led to a massive miners’ strike. Today, like most islands, the focus is on the beaches and tourism.
